About us

Dominic Murray was an energetic student-athlete and standout basketball player. On October 5th, 2009, Dominic’s heart abruptly stopped beating, and he collapsed on the court during an open gym basketball game at school. No one around him knew what to do. CPR was delayed and an automated external defibrillator wasn’t used until emergency responders arrived. By then it was too late to save him. Dominic was only 17 years old when he died. Dominic’s autopsy identified a congenital heart condition that had gone undetected during well child physicals and sports pre-participation examinations. Three years preceding Dominic’s cardiac arrest his father died from a heart attack at the age of 42.

What happened to Dominic is preventable!

The Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation (DomHeart21) is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization certified by the New York Department of State. Established n 2010 to educate and raise awareness on sudden cardiac arrest, effectuate change in youth cardiac screening and SCA prevention, promote and facilitate training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
